Dr. Hurst is a board certified plastic surgeon who provides cosmetic and reconstructive services in Southern Arizona. He currently is a member of Arizona Community Surgeons. Dr. Hurst is one of Tucson's leading cosmetic surgeons and has been recognized numerous times for his accomplishments in the plastic surgery field. Dr. Hurst was featured in Newsweek's "America's Best Plastic Surgeons" for breast augmentation surgery. He was peer selected as one of the top 175 plastic surgeons in the country for this procedure. Dr. Hurst obtained his Bachelor of Science degree at Mount Allison University in Eastern Canada. While completing medical school at Dalhousie University, he simultaneously obtained a Master of Science degree. Subsequently, he completed a general surgery residency in Ottawa and is board certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in General Surgery. Dr. Hurst carried out his plastic surgery residency at the University of Utah where he was trained in a diversity of aesthetic and reconstructive cases. He went on to be accepted at Indiana University for the Von Deilen-Curtis Fellowship in craniofacial plastic surgery which offered highly specialized training in rejuvenation enhancement and facial reconstruction in both adults and children. Dr. Hurst is certified in plastic surgery by two different entities, the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Upon completing his training, Dr. Hurst returned to Halifax, and joined the Division of Plastic Surgery at Dalhousie University as an assistant professor. After years of providing specialized care in Eastern Canada, Dr. Hurst was tasked with developing a plastic surgery program at the University of Arizona. He is credited with initiating separate multidisciplinary breast and maxillofacial reconstruction programs. He partnered with physicians at the Children’s Rehabilitation Services Clinic to develop a cleft team that has since been recognized by the American Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association. Before entering private practice, he was an associate professor and acting Chief of Plastic Surgery at the University of Arizona where he mentored students and residents in surgical techniques. During his time at the university, Dr. Hurst successfully carried out a number of complicated reconstructive procedures. Patients from around the world have sought out his expertise.
Currently, Dr. Hurst is an active participant in national and local societies, including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Craniofacial Surgeons, the American Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association and the Arizona Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Hurst has been a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He also participates in the American Board of Plastic Surgery Maintenance of Certification Program that provides the most updated knowledge and safety information to plastic surgeons.
