Blepharoplasty

A blepharoplasty is surgery that removes excess skin from the eyelids. With aging, eyelid skin is susceptible to stretching and loss of elasticity, causing undesirable eyelid drooping and sagging. The underlying and surrounding muscles that support the eyelids become more lax which results in extra skin and fat collecting around them. Skin and muscle changes lead to older and tired appearing eyes. Blepharoplasties are performed on the upper, lower, or both sets of lids. The goal of an eye lift surgery is to diminish lines and wrinkles around the eyes, allowing them to appear youthful and alert. This result culminates in a revitalized appearance to the upper face. Blepharoplasties are usually performed in an outpatient setting with local anesthetic administered to the eyelid area.

The average cost for the procedure is $4120, according to 2023 data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. This price does not include the anesthesia charge, surgical facility fee, and other related expenses. The procedure itself takes anywhere from 60-90 minutes. The upper lid incision is kept in the eyelid crease and the lower lid incision is made below the eyelashes. Following surgery, it is important to keep the head elevated and restrict strenuous activity for the next 72 hours. Bruising and swelling varies amongst patients and is expected for seven to ten days following the procedure.
