Liposuction is consistently one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures in the United States. Over 325,000 cases are performed annually. Liposuction is a procedure that involves removing fat from underneath the skin. The target tissues are infiltrated with a medicated solution and a slender tube is pushed through the fat while suction is applied. The fat is pulled into the tube and removed as the cannula moves back and forth. Skin remains intact and will typically retract and remodel over time in most patients. During a single liposuction session, 5 liters or 11 pounds of fat can be removed safely.
Vaser is a more precise, less traumatic method of mobilizing the fat before liposuction. Ultrasonic energy is applied to the medicated solution in the fat of the target tissues. This causes microscopic expansion and contraction of dissolved air bubbles and frees the fat cells from the surrounding tissues while minimizing trauma. The mobilized fat cells are then easily vacuumed from the body with the liposuction cannula. This process results in greater fat extraction with less injury and faster recovery for the patient. Vaser also permits more precise fat removal for shaping and sculpting along with greater skin retraction.
